Morfa Gorse      (Gorse Saltmarsh)
House Extension

Abersoch, North Wales, 2025

This home used to be a fisherman's cottage. It is on the edge of a golf course, surrounded by sand dunes and just a stones throw from the beach. We are not touching the outside of the existing cottage, as we want to maintain its character and respect its history. Internally we will undertake a full renovation, including insulating the floor, walls and roof to modern standards, so it can be heated by an air source heat pump.

At either end of the cottage we have designed distinct modern extensions. The materials and colour strongly contrast the new from the old. The existing cottage is dark and snug and will be perfectly suited to the bedrooms and living room. By contrast, the glazed kitchen-diner extension lets in plenty of light and gives excellent views of the surrounding landscape. A sliding barn door creates privacy when required.
