Ffordd Mynydd      (Mountain Road)
House Extension & Retrofit

Rachub, Gwynedd, 2024

We are excited to begin working on our second project insulated with Hempcrete. It is a highly sustainable, carbon negative method of construction that is also breathable, so it is perfect for retrofit on stone and solid walls. Hempcrete is an insulation material made by wet-mixing hemp shiv with a lime binder. It provides a vapour-permeable, airtight layer which also has great thermal mass. This material is either shuttered around a structural timber frame or built up in blocks.

Hempcrete Cymru will be delivering the project and they will construct the rear extension, that have been designed to create an open-plan on both floors. A new Glapor insulated slab will be installed throughout the ground floor. Photovoltaic panels and an air source heat pump will reduce the reliance of energy from fossil fuels.
